Proper Preparation

Do I really need to bring so much to my session?

The short answer is YES. I have had a number of clients who have come with phenomenal outfit choices, only to discover that their vision was so narrow that all three of their looks were almost identical. All the same color palette, all showcasing the same “type” and without any other options, the realization was a bit disheartening.

Look, this is NYC, I totally get it - no one wants to lug around a suitcase full of clothes, most of which you don’t end up using BUT you are doing yourself a disservice if you don’t OVER PREPARE. Bringing things that you can use to LAYER on top of an existing look can have a HUGE impact. Adding a leather jacket to a top can instantly make your look far more SPECIFIC. Same goes for a cardigan, or a blazer. Jewelry can also make a bold statement about a specific character type you are attempting to portray.

The most successful sessions are the ones in which 90% of the wardrobe wasn’t used, but in which we had CHOICES and were able to really nail specific looks. Getting headshots done takes as much preparation as auditions, so don’t forget to do your work and you’ll feel fantastic afterward for being so prepared and nailing it.
